Warner, Matthew 1812-1885



Matthew Warner, 1812 - 1885, son of Michael Warner and grandson of Christeyan Warner (Wanner). Grandson of an United Empire Loyalist Matthew farmed in Caistor Township and was the first postmaster in the village of Warner. Matthew married Ann McClure and was the father of 10 children. He is buried in Canboro Cemetery. Matthew’s grandfather, Christeyan Warner (Wanner) was a Sergeant in Butler’s Rangers and an early settler in the Niagara area. Matthew’s father Michael fought with the 1st Lincoln Militia and died in 1814 from a war injury.
